Housebound service
Bringing the library to you.
If you are unable to visit the library because of illness or disability, we can provide a door-to-door library service for you in one of the following ways:
- A friend or relative can select, deliver and return items on your behalf.
- Staff at the library can select items for your friend or relative to collect.
- Staff at the library can select items for you and volunteers can deliver them to you.
Who is the service for?
The service is available to any member of the community who is unable to visit the library because of illness or disability.
How does it work?
A library staff member visits housebound residents in their home to outline the service in detail and to establish a reading profile. Books are then selected by library staff (or friends or relatives) and delivered monthly by volunteers (or friends or relatives).
What can be borrowed?
Most of the normal lending collections are available to housebound borrowers.
These include:
- Fiction and Non Fiction
- Talking Books
- Large Print books
- Magazines
